Water's Journey is a paddling adventure down an 8 mile section of the historic and beautiful Suwannee River. If you are a returning participant, this is not a rerun; on each of our trips we have chosen a different section of the river. The trip will be led by Joe Chamberlain, executive director of Camp Weed, as he shares his wealth of knowledge about the river and its environment.
Along the way we will pass several of Florida's crystal clear springs as we glide effortlessly down the dark waters of the river. The pace will be leisurely as we plan to stop and swim at each spring we encounter. We will stop and have lunch (provided) along the way. Families are welcome on this light adventure and the dress is bathing suits or shorts but don't forget your snorkel and mask (and sun screen).
You may bring your own canoe or kayak or rent one from our outfitter. Your fee covers a shuttle service from the end of the trip to our starting point no matter whether you rent or bring your own vessel. This is greatly appreciated at the end of the day. Overnight event fee $75.00(includes a delightful social and 3 meals on Saturday), Daytrip event $65.00(includes 3 meals on Saturday). Lodging is additional and varies, guest rooms, cabins, tent & RV sites are available. Please call the Diocesan office, 904-356-1328 for more information.
Kayaks are available for rental $25.00/person
Canoes $15.00/person (based on 2 people/canoe)
Friday evening, August 13th, we will start with a social, movie and orientation at 7:30pm at the Cerveny Conference Center. Ample appetizers and refreshments will be provided so a meal is not necessary.
Saturday begins with a hearty breakfast at 8am orientation at 8:30am then a drive to the river at 9am. Lunch is delivered to us. We should be back at the Cerveny Conference Center by 5pm to enjoy a light dinner and refreshments (provided) and relive the day's adventure.
